BIOGRAPHY & STATEMENT
Sheryl has been an oil painter for over forty years, and in recent years has expanded her interests to include acrylic painting and gourd art. A self-taught artist, her work displays a contemporary mix of her passions for science and experimentation, as well as her love for texture and saturated color.
Originally from the Midwest, Sheryl graduated from the University of Central Missouri, with majors in biology and photography. She has won numerous awards for her art and wildlife photography, including two Best in Show awards. She is a member of the American Gourd Society, and has taught classes in various techniques at gourd art festivals in North Carolina.
Sheryl currently calls Durham, NC home, where she recently retired from a career in the pharmaceutical viral research field and is now a full time artist. She shares her home with rescued ginger tabby cats Sullivan, Spencer and Sophia.
As an artist based in Durham, NC, I am constantly inspired by the vibrant community and nature that surrounds me. My preferred mediums of Intuitive acrylic painting and gourd art allow me to explore my creativity and express my emotions through bold colors and intricate texture.
Each piece I create is a reflection of my innermost thoughts and experiences, bringing them to life through intuitive strokes and layers. Through my art, I aim to evoke emotions and spark conversations, inviting viewers to connect with my journey.
